Lucas Moura claims Tottenham teammate Carlos Vinicius is impressing in training
Lucas Moura has insisted that Tottenham teammate Carlos Vinicius is “very important” to the squad, as well as revealing that he’s been performing well in training.
Moura, 28, is a senior attacker at Spurs that has featured regularly under manager Jose Mourinho and he’s helped welcome Brazilian compatriot Vinicius to North London.
Vinicius, who joined Spurs in the summer on loan from Benfica, is a centre-forward that arrived to provide a back-up option for England captain Harry Kane.
The 25-year-old is having to be patient for his opportunities, making just four appearances across all competitions so far and three have been in Europe.
He may get some more minutes on Thursday night if that trend continues, as Spurs host Bulgarian side Ludogorets in the Europa League group stages.
The striker is yet to score since his summer but does have two assists to his name.
“He’s doing well during the week, during the training sessions and there’s also the desire to score,”
“Sometimes it can be difficult and very soon he’ll score. The most important thing is the coach and I’m sure that Mourinho has the patience that he needs to have in a new player. Everyone believes in Carlos, he’s a very important player who will help us a lot in the future.
TBR’s View:
Vinicius knew when he signed for Spurs that he was only joining as Kane’s understudy, which is why he can’t get too disheartened by his lack of minutes so far.
He’s a physical striker that has shown some great flashes when on the pitch and with a busy fixture list coming up manager Mourinho may be more likely to make some changes with his starting XI.
There is now a real belief growing that this Spurs group are capable of competing for silverware this season and they are going to need the full depth of their squad in order to do so.
