Lucas Digne and Amadou Onana react as Jhon Duran signs new Aston Villa contract until 2030

Aston Villa have given fans plenty of special memories already this season – and October has only just started.

The Villans have secured a historic UEFA Champions League win over Bayern Munich, while also fighting from 2-0 down to secure a memorable 3-2 victory over Everton at Villa Park, having also fought back from 1-0 down to beat Midlands rivals Wolves 3-1 at the same venue.

As a result, Unai Emery has his side sat fifth in the Premier League.

Now, more good news has emerged from Aston Villa, with Lucas Digne and Amadou Onana particularly excited.

Amadou Onana and Lucas Digne overjoyed as Jhon Duran signs new Aston Villa contract

Aston Villa announced earlier on Monday – completely out of the blue – that Jhon Duran has signed a new contract until 2030.

The Colombia international has been the star of the 2024/25 campaign so far, scoring six goals in ten appearances, including remarkable strikes in the aforementioned wins over Everton and Bayern Munich.

After hearing the news, Digne wrote “felicidades crack” on Instagram – which translates to congratulations brother – along with some heart emojis.

In regards to Onana, the Belgian simply posted two starry eyed emojis in response to the news, clearly dazzled in delight by the update on Duran.

Bad news for Chelsea

In case you missed it, Chelsea are still hoping to sign Duran after showing summer interest in the South American.

The Blues abandoned a £40m deal for the 20-year-old during the summer transfer window, but are still showing interest after his excellent start to the season.

Now – however – you would imagine that Chelsea no longer have any chance of signing Duran, not for a while at least, after he committed the next six years of his career to Aston Villa.

Of course, Chelsea could trigger a release clause – if such a clause has been included in the new contract – although the move would still have to come with the Colombian giving the green light.

Hopefully, Duran spends many more years at Villa Park, scoring screamers and giving Aston Villa fans memories for life.
