‘Love to see it’: £25m winger says one Arsenal ace was ‘doing bits’ last night

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe has been praised by Everton midfielder Yannick Bolasie for his performance for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners in the Europa League last night.

The North Londoners took on Norway’s Molde at the Emirates Stadium, but things began badly for the hosts as they fell behind to a long-range Martin Ellingsen effort on 22 minutes.

Arsenal drew level on the stroke of half time through Kristoffer Haugen’s own goal following a superb breakaway, and in the second half, went ahead through a Sheriff Sinyan own goal.

Pepe put in a mixed display on the night, being dispossessed often and showing little end product in the opening 70-odd minutes, before going on bag himself a goal and an assist.

The 25-year-old curled home a great effort from just inside the box and, for Joe Willock’s goal, sliced the Molde defence open with a neat through-ball.

Bolasie, who joined Everton for in 2016, took to Twitter to sing Pepe’s praises:

Pepe continues to frustrate and delight in equal measure, and when asked about the record signing’s performance after the game, Mikel Arteta called for consistency and a better final product – though “not just from him”.

The Spaniard, speaking to , added that Pepe “scored a great goal and another assist and he can do more so he’s on the right path”, music to the ears of Arsenal fans.
