‘Lot of talent’: Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham have signed a ‘great’ player

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has waxed lyrical about new Spurs signing Alejo Veliz.

The Lilywhites boss told how the 19-year-old has a “great profile” and has a “lot of talent”.

Tottenham confirmed the signing of Veliz from Argentine outlet Rosario Central earlier this week.

reported that the teenager has joined for £13million, penning a six-year deal at Spurs.

Veliz joins Tottenham on the back of 11 goals in 23 appearances at club level this calendar year.

He was also on the scoresheet three times for Argentina’s Under-20s at the recent Under-20s World Cup.

Veliz and fellow Spurs newcomer Micky van de Ven didn’t play against Barcelona on Tuesday night.

They’re still awaiting their work permits, so the moves came too late for them to make the trip.

Once those come through, then they’ll get to business and hopefully hit the ground running for Tottenham.

Postecoglou is certainly looking forward to working with Veliz, speaking highly about him after the 4-2 loss.

“With young Veliz, he’s one we identified and he’s got a lot of talent for a youngster,” he .

“He’s got a great profile. He is a big guy but he’s very mobile and he works hard.

“He’s already made an impact in the Argentine first division and again good to have him in.”

Our view

Credit to Tottenham for scouting, moving for and closing the deal for such an exciting talent.

Veliz is highly rated in Argentina, and Spurs got there while he’s still relatively under the radar among European clubs.

Journalist and U23 football scout Antonio Mango branded the 19-year-old as a ‘‘ striker.

Rosario Central have given some outstanding players to the world, and hopefully Veliz will be the next one.

Angel Di Maria, Giovani Lo Celso and Facundo Buonanotte all joined European football from there over the past 16 years.

Let’s hope from more of the same from Veliz, who is exactly the kind of top talent Spurs should be looking at for their future.
