With Rangers unable to call on Jermain Defoe at present due to injury and Alfredo Morelos being linked with a departure from Ibrox, a new striker is likely to be high on Steven Gerrard’s wishlist.

According to a report from June, both Rangers and Celtic, plus a number of English Championship outfits, are showing interest in Livingston’s Dykes.

The £2million-rated ace enjoyed a superb breakout season in 2019-20, turning in a number of impressive displays for the Doonhammers and claiming 12 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Moore, who like Dykes hails from Australia, has followed his compatriot’s career and feels the 6ft 2in ace has put himself in a “fantastic position” for a step up.

“Lyndon comes from the Gold Coast where I stay and I have followed what he has done since he has gone over to Scotland,” Moore told the . “He has been working his way through the grades nicely. I know there is interest in him and I’m not surprised.

“He is a good player, he has shown he can adapt to the Scottish game and physically he has made a bit of a name for himself because he is probably the one striker in Scotland who’s been able to ruffle the feathers of both Celtic and Rangers and compete with their central defenders.

“If you are scoring goals and doing well at another club Celtic and Rangers are normally going to be interested. He has put himself in a fantastic position. There is a lot of interest in him in England and Scotland. I am sure at the right time he will move.”

While Rangers’ striking woes continue – and could worsen if Morelos leaves – Celtic aren’t exactly out of the woods either, given Odsonne Edouard is likely to be a man in demand.

Dykes, a tall target man with raw power, aggression, a superb engine and a proven goalscoring record in Scotland, would definitely be a good option for either club – and he’s reported to cost a relatively modest .

Billy Dodds told the that he’d be “the perfect buy for Rangers and the type of player that Gerrard is going to need if he is to stop Celtic”, while Ally McCoist  told that he’d “been saying for about a year that I would have gone and paid the money” for him.
