‘Lot of credit’…Thierry Henry says he was so impressed by what £45m Arsenal star did in first-half yesterday

Thierry Henry made sure to give Gabriel Jesus a lot of credit after Arsenal took the lead through Gabriel Martinelli at Luton Town on Tuesday night.

Henry was speaking on about a goal which already feels like a lifetime ago as Arsenal ultimately needed a 97th minute winner to edge a seven-goal thriller at Kenilworth Road.

Declan Rice may have been Arsenal’s hero, but Gabriel Jesus definitely had a brilliant night against the Hatters. The Brazilian scored one goal and set up Kai Havertz for his strike in the second-half.

And he also played a vital role in the opening goal of the game. The 26-year-old was starting to close Thomas Kaminski down as the Luton goalkeeper was forced to put the ball out for a throw-in.

Jesus reacted immediately and quickly threw the ball back in for Bukayo Saka before Luton could organise themselves. Saka went on to find Gabriel Martinelli, who then found the back of the net.

It was superb composure from the two wingers. But Thierry Henry did not want what Jesus did to go under the radar.

“You also have to give a lot of credit to Gabriel Jesus because of the way he reacted, he sprinted to get that throw in because he knows they were not in the position to defend,” he told .

Striker proved a real point with display in dramatic win

Jesus probably did not silence those who believe that he is not the goalscorer to lead Arsenal to the title this season. Ultimately, his goal just before half-time was only his second in the top-flight this term.

But his overall performance surely showed why Mikel Arteta has never lost faith in the star. His all-round game was sensational.

Luton used their physicality to try and gain an advantage over the Gunners. But Jesus was always up for the battle and really took the game to their defenders.

shows that the striker completed five key passes during the game. No one on either side managed more. And while he did not win many of his challenges, he was not afraid to get stuck in.

It was an old-school performance from such a hard-working striker on a night where some may have wondered whether some of Arsenal’s top players would even be up for the contest.
