‘Lost for words’ – Garry Monk has little sympathy for his Sheffield Wednesday players
Sheffield Wednesday manager, Garry Monk, has admitted he was ‘lost for words’ following his side’s miserable loss at Brentford.
The Owls were hammered by the Bees, who ran out 5-0 winners to further cement their playoff spot.
The result was another blow to Monk, who is already under pressure from a whole host of Sheffield Wednesday fans following results in recent weeks.
Today’s defeat sees the Owls loitering down in mid-table and now with no chance of making a run at the top six.
And speaking after the game, Monk admitted he was lost for words and embarrassed at what he’d seen today.
“It’s not very often in my life I’ve been lost for words,” Monk said.
“It was nothing short of embarrassing if I’m honest with you. It was inexcusable. We were hiding today, they hid from the responsibilities of what they should face on a football pitch.”
The defeat means it is now just one win in ten games for Monk’s charges. With an investigation looming over the club and owner, Dejphon Chansiri, there is a very real chance they could be relegated if hit with a points deduction.
Monk, however, made no excuses. Indeed, the Owls boss fronted up and apologies to the Wednesday fans.
“It was the most embarrassed I’ve ever felt in my entire time in football. I can only apologise to the fans behind that goal. They don’t deserve that type of performance,” he added.

Any other club would surely have parted ways with Monk given such a wretched run of form. The Owls have gone from being in and around the top two to be the most out of sorts team in the division.
Monk spoke of how the culture of the club is wrong after the game. He might have a point. However, those words suggest he is at loggerheads with other people within the club.
It’s a tough time for Sheffield Wednesday and their fans at the moment. But it looks like it will be Garry Monk who pays the price at the end of the day.
