The former Charlton Athletic man struggled to get regular football with the Toffees, and last term could not force his way into Marco Silva’s starting XI ahead of the likes of Theo Walcott, Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

He’ll now start afresh with the Bundesliga outfit, and will be hopeful of realising his potential having had a great loan spell previously.

Taking to Instagram, a reflective Lookman said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my teammates at Everton Football Club for all the love and unwavering support you’ve shown me over the past two and a half years.

“Last but not least I would like to thank the fans for their support during my time at Everton, I am truly honoured to have had the opportunity to play for you. All the best for the future, Love AL31.”

Many Everton responded with messages of thanks for his contributions and best wishes for the future.
