‘Looked good’: Some Newcastle fans laud talent who was ‘the only’ positive in 1-0 pre-season loss
It was an afternoon to forget for Newcastle United as they to York City in their pre-season opener.
A late winner from defender Michael Duckworth saw the Toon lose to the National League side. Moreover, the likes of Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton started for Steve Bruce’s side.
After finishing 12th last campaign, there is some hope that next season won’t see the northeast giants sucked into a relegation battle in the Premier League.

However, confidence has already been dashed following today’s result. But, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for Newcastle.
One player who particularly impressed supporters was Jacob Murphy.
The winger, who started at right-back, was a constant threat against the Yorkshire side, with the attacker causing problems throughout the game.

Indeed, the forward was a standout player for Newcastle on the day. And fans on social media were impressed with what they saw from the former Norwich City attacker.
Here’s what some Newcastle fans had to say on Twitter about Murphy’s performance against York…
Jacob Murphy is becoming my favourite player. Man that kid can cross a ball 😎

That was a typical pre season performance, we looked so tired in the second half. No need to panic though, we always look dire in pre season.

Watts and Murphy the only real positives. ASM had some nice moments, and I thought Fraser did alright as a no. 8.
Well blew cobwebs out today v soft goal to concede. Murphy looked good. Ritchie to. ASM was lively when he came on. Nice to be back on road and see in the 9 and Langley make his debut. We go again friday

I love watching Jacob Murphy.

The only player apart from ASM that gets me off my seat when he attacks.
Such a threat down the right when he gets his head down and commits his man.
Newcastle fans will be hoping for a better performance from the squad in their next pre-season fixture.
Indeed, the Toon will face off against League One side Doncaster on Friday night. Moreover, supporters will be hoping for an improved display and result against Rovers
