Loaned-out Arsenal star names club he hopes to play for ‘long-term’ – bad news for Newcastle

Matteo Guendouzi has insisted that he wants to stay at Marseille for the long-term in comments that may alert supporters of both Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Guendouzi is currently on loan with the Ligue 1 side. His form has seen him earn a call-up to the France senior squad for this international break.

It does appear more than likely that he has already made his final appearance for Arsenal. He obviously fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta.

And reports recently suggested that Marseille will have to make his move permanent for £9.5 million should they stay up.

As things stand, Jorge Sampaoli’s men are going to have absolutely no problem ensuring that they remain in France’s top flight.

That was not the end of the speculation, however. Reports suggested that Newcastle were eyeing a potential move for the 22-year-old next summer.

But judging by Guendouzi’s latest comments on his future, it would appear that he has no intention of returning to England anytime soon.

“Today, I am on loan, still bound by the contract with Arsenal,” he said, . “But I’m totally focused on what to do with OM. This is a club where I want to project myself into the future, where I want to join in the long term.

Arsenal coping fine without Guendouzi, while Newcastle would be taking gamble with move

Guendouzi is unquestionably an outstanding talent. However, it did not appear to be his ability that prompted Arteta to let him go.

Arsenal meanwhile, do not appear to be missing Guendouzi.

Ultimately, they may rue the fee that he leaves for. But letting him leave looks to make sense for all parties.

Newcastle may not want to rule a move out at this stage. But having said that, a deal would be a potential gamble for the Magpies.

If a move works out, it could be inspired. But it is a big if.
