Liverpool’s reported transfer plan would surely put Divock Origi’s future in doubt
Liverpool are being linked with a host of names ahead of the summer transfer window. One name in particular that continues to be mentioned is that of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. The Germany international, who can also play on the wing, has long been mentioned as a potential Liverpool target.
on the matter, with Werner believed to have a £50 million release clause active in his current contract.
It would be an exciting move for Liverpool. However, what would it mean for a player who has established himself as a firm crowd favourite?
Divock Origi’s career at Liverpool appeared to be over in 2018. The Belgian had just finished an uninspiring loan stint at Wolfsburg and the Reds were seemingly ready to move him on.

Liverpool wanted £27 million for the player that Valencia as keen. It seemed a steep price considering his struggles.
However, for several reasons, he stayed. Liverpool invested heavily in other areas of the team, leaving little finances available to bring in another striker. Youngster Rhian Brewster was also expected to step up but required knee surgery. So Origi was eventually kept on and became the fourth-man of Liverpool’s sensational three-man attack.
When called upon, he made quite the impact. His Premier League goals against Everton and Newcastle United were important, but his Champions League heroics v Barcelona and Tottenham will forever keep the Belgian in Liverpool folklore.
But if Werner arrives, Origi will undoubtedly be struggling even more for regular football. Given the reputation he has developed over the past 18 months, Liverpool could easily cash in on that previously unlikely £27 million asking price.
As for Origi, he would deserve a chance to prove himself a regular starter elsewhere. He would undoubtedly leave with the best wishes of everyone at Anfield after his recent heroics.
