Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge must replicate his 2013/14 form against Cardiff City

As Liverpool play host to Cardiff City this afternoon, Daniel Sturridge must be salivating at the chance to feature against the Bluebirds.

The last time the striker faced Cardiff in the Premier League was in March 2014, when the Reds ran riot in south Wales and produced a stunning 6-3 victory.

Sturridge bagged a goal and an assist that afternoon, and the 29-year-old must replicate his 2013/14 form if he hopes to nail down a consistent role in the Liverpool squad this season.

The Englishman was at his very best against the Welsh side in 2014, setting up Luis Suarez’s second goal that day with an audacious, no-look backheel that epitomised ingenuity. In addition, Sturridge illustrated his predatory instincts with a well-taken goal off a Suarez cross, due to his intelligent movement and searing pace.

In all, his previous Cardiff performance was part of a season where the striker netted 25 times and produced nine assists, superb levels of production that Sturridge has unfortunately failed to live up to since.

Yet with Cardiff coming to Anfield today, Daniel Sturridge has an ideal opportunity to find his scintillating form of five seasons ago and show Jurgen Klopp he is an indispensable member of the Liverpool team.
