Report: Liverpool could be set to offload 27-year-old this summer

Liverpool could be interested in offloading Xherdan Shaqiri this summer after just one season at Anfield,

The Switzerland international started just 15 games in all competitions and hasn’t really been able to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Shaqiri arrived from Stoke last summer in a deal worth £13 million, This season he has just six goals and five assists to his name.

Liverpool could still win the Champions League this season which would represent a decent campaign. After failing to wrestle the Premier League title away from Manchester City, however, Klopp could look to freshen up his squad.

Shaqiri was part of the starting eleven that defeated Barcelona 4-0 to set up a Champions League final with Tottenham. The highlight domestically for the 27-year-old was netting a brace against Manchester United during a 3-1 victory.

TBR Verdict

Shaqiri hasn’t really cut the mustard at Anfield. He has done a job but in order for him to be effective, he needs to play.

The chances of him doing that at Liverpool look relatively slim with better players currently vying for his position.

On £80k-a-week, Liverpool might be best served to offload Shaqiri and use the funds towards landing a really top player.

It will be interesting to see whether the forward will still be at Anfield come August. One thing is for sure if Liverpool are keen to get rid of their player they won’t be any shortage of suitors for his signature.
