Liverpool will be delighted they offloaded Lazar Markovic to Fulham

When Fulham announced the signing of Lazar Markovic on January transfer deadline day, many Liverpool supporters would have been forgiven for forgetting the winger was still on the club’s books.

And with Markovic having played a grand total of 45 minutes so far at Fulham, Liverpool’s decision to offload Markovic looks to have been an astute call.

Fulham billed the signing as a free transfer that was low-risk, and played up the close friendship between star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and Markovic.

But ever since Markovic joined the Whites, Mitrovic has failed to score a single goal, Fulham have failed to win or a draw a single game, and Markovic has only made one substitute appearance.

After Scott Parker joined the club, the winger has been banished out of the 18-man squad, and appears unlikely to play any further part in the season.

In all, Fulham’s relegation is all but assured and Markovic will surely go down as one of the most underwhelming signings in recent memory for Fulham.

The Serbian’s wholly anonymous tenure at the doomed London club will have Liverpool feeling confident in their decision to let Lazar Markovic leave on a free.
