Report: Liverpool distancing deal for ‘exceptional’ star, club may tell Klopp no to transfer
Liverpool have cooled their interest in a summer transfer for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus, per the .
The Anfield natives had been tracking the German for several months but have elected against pursuing a deal right now. But Jurgen Klopp is still targeting arrivals in the engine room after Georginio Wijnaldum left as a free agent.
Klopp wants Liverpool to strengthen his midfield options in the off-season and has a number of alternative targets being assessed. The Reds will also continue to monitor Neuhaus at Euro 2020 and could revive their interest.
But Liverpool face paying Borussia Monchengladbach an increased sum to bring Neuhaus to the Premier League this summer. The £34m release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga outfit expired at the end of last month.
And Klopp could be left without any new midfielders arriving at Anfield ahead of the new campaign. Liverpool are mindful of the depth the German already has in the position and will likely only sign new options if players are sold first.
Despite Wijnaldum leaving and joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, Klopp has at Liverpool. Along with those currently in the academy ranks who are itching for their breakthroughs.

Liverpool could yet revive their interest in Neuhaus, but it was a mistake to cool their pursuit of the midfielder. They may now rue not paying the release clause in his Borussia Monchengladbach contract, as he could be worth more.
Neuhaus is yet to make his Euro 2020 debut but the German maestro offered domestically last season. Only three central midfielders in the Bundesliga, as well.
Former Gladbach boss Marco Rose waxed lyrical over the ‘exceptional talent’, via , during his time in charge, too. And his stock has only risen, and will continue to rise, be it at Liverpool next season or elsewhere.
