Liverpool think they’re about to sign a player who has massive potential
Liverpool are about to make their first signing of the Arne Slot era.
Federico Chiesa has been linked to Liverpool, but it’s Giorgi Mamardashvili who is set to join.
The Georgian goalkeeper is set to undergo a medical with the Reds in the coming days, and an announcement could be imminent on this front.
From the outside looking in, this does seem like a rather strange signing. After all, Liverpool already have two brilliant goalkeepers in their squad in Alisson and Caomhin Kelleher.
However, there is method to this perceived madness.

Liverpool believe Giorgi Mamardashvili has big potential
Liverpool may not need a new goalkeeper right now, but that isn’t going to be the case forever.
At the age of 31, Alisson is getting towards that stage of his career where he might start to think about winding down.
Of course, goalkeepers can go on for a long time, but forward-planning is never a bad idea.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have been doing due diligence on goalkeeping options for the day that Alisson either leaves the club or retires, and they have highlighted Mamardashvili as a player with big potential.
Mamardashvili won’t play a role at Liverpool this season, but, in the future, he could be a key player.
Giorgi Mamardashvili has time on his side
It may well be three or four years until Mamardashvili gets his shot at Liverpool, but patience is a virtue in football.
The Georgian has now got his big move, and when the time comes, he will be ready to pounce at his chance to be the Reds’ number one.
At the age of just 23, Mamardashvili is a baby in goalkeeping terms, and he can easily spend a few years on loan biding his time without doing long-term damage to his career.
Thibaut Courtois did something similar at Chelsea, and now, Mamardashvili just has to be patient at Liverpool.
