Liverpool-supporting pundit orders Euro 2020 sensation to leave Liverpool, makes sense for all parties

It was the Xherdan Shaqiri show on Sunday night as Switzerland more or less booked their place in the last 16 of Euro 2020. Netting two worldies during a 3-1 win over Switzerland, the Liverpool attacker has been the talk of many Liverpool fans on Twitter – and now,

Switzerland were tasked with beating Turkey on Sunday night in order to at least finish in third on four points. They did just, smashing Turkey by three goals to one. All four goals were excellent, including Haris Seferovic’s opener. But Shaqiri stole the show, with two brilliant goals.

His efforts, which secured third place in the group – with Wales holding onto second after only losing by one goal to Italy. However, the Swiss are likely to go through as one of the best-placed nations finishing in third. Asked about his future, Nicol believes Shaqiri still needs to go, though.

“For him, personally, it could be fantastic timing,” “Clearly, he has to leave Liverpool otherwise he is going to endure another season of coming off the bench which is no use to him. So the timing is perfect, certainly in this game.

“His tournament is about him, not Switzerland,” Nicol continued. “Scoring two worldies, he shows he still has the quality to perform at the highest level. He has had some injuries, but he is playing for one of the best club’s in the world. There will be some clubs after him.”

So, does Shaqiri leave Liverpool following Nicol comments?

He’s got to, hasn’t he? Shaqiri only played little over 800 minutes last season in all competitions – the equivalent of nine full matches. Those minutes were spread across 22 outings. Only 14 came in the Premier League. For the good of his career, Shaqiri needs to go – especially at the age of 29.

Shaqiri needs to go. If he remains, even despite his form for Switzerland, he is only going to continue sitting on the bench at Anfield. He needs a club where is first choice. Shaqiri, being the main man in a side, will get the best out of him again – like we saw at Stoke, and with his country.
