Liverpool still ‘dreaming’ of signing record-breaking £120m striker after Florian Wirtz

Liverpool would still love to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United this summer, even after concluding a deal for Florian Wirtz.

Richard Hughes has started the summer in brilliant fashion at Anfield, and Liverpool are potentially closing in on three significant moves already.

Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez could follow Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool, a trio who could help take Arne Slot’s side to another level next summer.

However, Liverpool’s summer spending might not be complete until they sign a striker — someone to act as an upgrade on Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.

And despite the funds they are spending elsewhere, Liverpool are still ‘dreaming’ of a move for Alexander Isak at Newcastle United.

Liverpool would still love to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now provided the latest on Liverpool’s search for a striker this summer.

Liverpool fans have been told that a ‘really big name’ could still come in this summer, with Isak at the top of their wishlist.

Bailey said: “Liverpool still want a striker – we previously revealed that Liverpool were in for a ‘huge summer’ and that is how it is panning out.

“They have signed Frimpong and hope to follow that up shortly with Kerkez and Wirtz in a British record deal – but they are not finished.

“They want another central defender but a striker remains a priority, especially if as expected Nunez moves on and I am told his people are holding talks with various clubs.

“Jota is also one of those who they won’t stop from leaving and those exits will help pave the way for a new front-man.

“Isak is still one they would love, he is the dream signing striker wise and his contract talks are being monitored at Anfield.

“We know they are doing work on others including Hugo Ekitike, whilst the names of Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have been discussed.

“There are plenty of options available to Liverpool – don’t be surprised if it is a really big name that comes in.”

FSG could sell players to fund Liverpool striker bid

TBR Football previously shared that FSG might have to sell players in order to still fund a huge bid for a striker this summer.

And it’s interesting that Liverpool are willing to sell Jota this summer, along with Nunez who has been made available.

Slot ended up often turning to Luis Diaz in a central role last season, acting as his number nine.

And Liverpool’s chances of retaining the Premier League next season would undoubtedly be helped by the arrival of a somewhat traditional striker.

Of course, Liverpool do like Ekitike as mentioned, however, Eintracht Frankfurt might demand a fee that is more suitable for a player of Isak’s quality at Newcastle.

Isak, who might cost upwards of £120m this summer if he’s available, broke Newcastle’s club record to become the first player to ever score in eight successive Premier League matches last season.
