Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk raves about reported Tottenham target
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has heaped praise on Tottenham target Nathan Ake in
The Bournemouth central defender has been linked with a transfer to Spurs during the summer and Van Dijk thinks he’s a ‘fantastic’ player.
The duo often feature in the same squad with the Holland national team and Van Dijk was impressed with what he saw when Liverpool played Bournemouth last weekend.

“First of all, he’s a fantastic guy. I speak with him quite a bit at the national team and I think he’s a fantastic player as well.
“On Saturday he showed with clearances and I think he stepped up when he had the armband as well. It’s just good to see that he’s improving.
“He has the quality but he has to have more than quality these days. He’s still young, he’s improving and you never know what decision might happen.”
Tottenham are likely to try and sign a central defender during the summer and it remains to be seen if Jose Mourinho will opt for Ake.
At £40 million he wouldn’t exactly be considered cheap but one thing he does have is the experience of playing in the division.
Competition
Toby Alderweireld is quite clearly the number one defender at Tottenham but if Jan Vertonghen leaves when his contract is up, they will become short at the back.
The jury is perhaps still out on Davinson Sanchez and a more established player could be added.
Ake, 25 has been at the Vitality Stadium for four years having made a loan deal permanent in 2017.

The tough-tackling central defender has made 115 appearances for Bournemouth and it looks for all the world that this season will be his last with the Cherries.
Receiving a glowing reference from Van Dijk is nice but the ball is in Ake’s court with regards to proving himself.
If he earns a move to Tottenham he will have every chance of establishing himself as one of the top defenders in the country.
