Liverpool should rethink Fabinho cover plan: Grujic recall makes more sense than £18m Berge signing

Liverpool should consider bringing Marko Grujic back in the January transfer window.

The midfielder is currently out on loan at Hertha Berlin and he is seriously impressing in Germany. With Fabinho out injured, Liverpool plan to dip into the transfer market, according to reports. But it would make more sense for Liverpool to use Grujic instead.

Liverpool’s lynchpin in midfield, Fabinho, is out with an ankle ligament injury. He picked this up in the first half against Napoli recently and he will be a big miss.

Fabinho sits in front of the back four and his defensive work allows Liverpool’s other midfielders to attack with more license. Without Fabinho, Liverpool could be prone to more counter-attacks. This is why Jurgen Klopp needs to find a solution to cover for the Brazilian’s injury absence.

, Liverpool could accelerate a move for Sander Berge due to Fabinho’s injury. The 21-year-old is currently at Genk and he is a Liverpool target for the future.

Rather than move next summer, Liverpool are considering fast-tracking this move for the Norway star. He would cost £18m if Liverpool want to prise him away from the Belgian club in January.

Grujic would be more sensible

But instead of spending £18m, Liverpool could save their pennies and bring back Grujic. The 23-year-old is a hit in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin and he deserves his chance.

Like Berge, he is a towering and powerful central midfielder, who is strong on the ball. With 37 Hertha Berlin games under his belt, the Serbia international can return to Liverpool and show what he has got.

While Fabinho is out injured, Grujic has a chance to show why he should be in the squad. This will give Klopp an indication about whether to keep him as a squad option when Fabinho returns or whether to let him leave.
