Liverpool should make last-minute push to sign £100m Premier League player after transfer developments
Liverpool were just bystanders at the start of the transfer window but could be set for a whirlwind spell in the coming days ahead of deadline day.
Arne Slot’s squad is finally starting to take shape despite the fact that they haven’t signed a senior player this summer.
The likes of Fabio Carvalho, Bobby Clark, Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Blair have moved on in search of regular game time, while a handful of others have been linked with departures.
The Reds have a stacked squad on paper but are a bit short of quality and numbers in midfield. If reports are to be believed, they could be further depleted in the center of the park in the coming days.
Tyler Morton is in talks to sign for Bayer Leverkusen on an initial loan deal and the two clubs are likely to include an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
Stefan Bajcetic has emerged as a target for RB Salzburg, with Pepijn Lijnders looking to raid his former club again after completing a deal for Clark earlier this summer.
The young Spaniard looks likely to leave – albeit on loan – and his departure would deplete the Reds further in an area where they are already lacking.
Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Liverpool earlier this summer and Slot has thus far refrained from pursuing alternatives.
However, with Morton and Bajcetic looking likely to move on, it might be time for Liverpool to make a statement in the transfer market.
And they might not have to look too far for a quality midfielder.
Newcastle United have remained firm on their stance that Bruno Guimaraes is not for sale, but Liverpool should test the waters with a massive bid in the coming days.
Liverpool should make a play for Bruno Guimaraes before transfer deadline

The 26-year-old has keen admirers at Anfield, with the Reds making an enquiry for the Brazilian midfielder earlier this summer.
Arsenal and Manchester City were also credited with an interest, but Newcastle have thus far stood their ground after Guimaraes’ £100m release clause expired at the end of June.
Having recently been named captain for the 2024-25 campaign, the Brazilian midfielder quashed claims that he could be on the move and signaled his desire to remain at St. James’ Park.
However, stranger things have happened in the transfer market over the years and with Liverpool well equipped with a sizable transfer kitty, they should consider throwing the kitchen sink to snap up Guimaraes before the transfer deadline.
The Reds have always maintained that they’d be willing to break the bank for transformative signings – as seen with their failed pursuit of Moises Caicedo last summer – and should try something similar with the Brazilian.
How Guimaraes would fit in at Liverpool
While Guimaraes isn’t an out-and-out number six who would be tailor-made for Slot’s system, he’s an all-action midfielder who could slot in seamlessly next to Alexis Mac Allister in the centre of the park.
His athleticism allows him to eat up the ground in midfield, which would in turn enable Mac Allister to dictate the game.
Guimaraes is also capable of breaking defensive lines with his final passes and doesn’t shy away from a tackle, while his ball-carrying has been on display several times at St James’ Park since his move from Olympique Lyonnais.
Liverpool are currently using Ryan Gravenberch in the number six role and to be fair to the Dutchman, he’s performed admirably in the first two games of the season.
However, with the former Bayern Munich man still learning the ropes in that position, an experienced campaigner like Guimaraes – who is now an indispensable asset for Newcastle and Brazil – could prove to be a ceiling-raising buy for Liverpool.
