Liverpool should copy Barcelona’s transfer ploy, use Xherdan Shaqiri, and win battle for Diego Carlos
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Diego Carlos in recent weeks. in Spain, the Brazilian defender is considered a potentially perfect partner for Virgil van Dijk in defence and the future of Dejan Lovren in doubt.
The defender carries a €75 million release clause (£65m), but Liverpool face competition from Barcelona and it appears they might have the edge.
The Catalan side are willing to offer former Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who is surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, back to the club as part of any deal. Considering Rakitic calls Seville home and married a local, he would seemingly be keen on the deal.

It gives Barca an edge over Liverpool. However, Liverpool could simply copy the trick of their transfer rivals and offer someone of their own.
Because Liverpool have something Sevilla want.
Sevilla have readied a ‘mega-offer’ behind the scenes to try and bring Shaqiri to the club this summer.
However the Spanish side are not willing to pay Liverpool’s £25 million asking price for the Swiss international.
But what if Liverpool were to include Shaqiri in any potential deal for the Brazilian defender?
It would give Liverpool a chance to reduce the fee involved in any deal for the centre-back whilst also shifting Shaqiri from the wage bill. As for Sevilla, they would get a player they are reportedly very keen on without having to shell out a hefty fee.
Liverpool should use Barcelona’s apparent plan to sign Diego Carlos as the blueprint for their own.
