Liverpool should consider signing Isco as Madrid step up Gini Wijnaldum pursuit – TBR View

Liverpool’s winter window is set to be an interesting one, as Jurgen Klopp and the club weigh up whether to bring in a new central defender.

Injuries to the likes of Van Dijk and Gomez have rocked Anfield. But despite that, the Reds remain in the hunt to retain their Premier League title despite the crisis of injuries.

Beyond January, things could also be interesting for Liverpool. The past summer has seen them bring in the likes of Thiago and Diogo Jota, while it’s inevitable new faces will need to be added over the course of the next few windows to ensure continuity.

One of the biggest situations the club will have to manage is the contract situation surrounding Gini Wijnaldum. The Dutchman is said to be wanted by a number of clubs, Real Madrid, with a new deal yet to be signed.

Of course, Wijnaldum is a fine player who Klopp likes. But if he does go, could the Liverpool boss look to get one over on local rivals Everton by proposing a swap deal for Spanish star, Isco?

Top quality

Liverpool have some excellent players in midfield but Wijnaldum is one of the key ones. Klopp has utilised him so much, with the Dutchman being key in both Premier League and Champions League successes.

However, should he choose to go, then Isco would offer a different dimension. Yes, he’s more attacking and plays more as a number ten, but he’d bring something to the Reds that they’re arguably lacking.

Curtis Jones is looking better and better and could be a natural Wijnaldum replacement. In Isco, the Reds would be getting someone who can almost operate like Phillipe Coutinho used to for them. Drifting into pockets, picking a pass, and delivering moments of quality.

Of course, getting a player Everton are said to be fond of is an added bonus (even though Carlo Ancelotti )

But if Wijnaldum does want out, January might be the time for Klopp and the Reds to pursue a swap deal.
