Liverpool set to miss out on Thorgan Hazard despite outbidding Dortmund for him
Liverpool’s attempts to lure Thorgan Hazard to Anfield this summer are set to come to nothing,
They that the Borussia Monchengladbach wideman is set to remain in Germany and join Borussia Dortmund in the forthcoming transfer window for £35m.
But Liverpool made a bid for Hazard, which was for more than that fee, and despite Monchengladbach’s own preference to sell to Anfield, the player himself wants to go to Dortmund because he believes he will play more there – and has made a ‘verbal agreement’ to do exactly that.
That could be because Christian Pulisic has agreed to join Chelsea, vacating a spot out wide in the Dortmund ranks, but either way it’s a blow to Jurgen Klopp’s attempts to shape his squad for next season.

Liverpool’s attacking depth remains an issue when compared to Manchester City, who have incredible strength in reserve, and Hazard’s quality and versatility would have been an antidote to that.
And even with Liverpool’s increased financial muscle over the likes of Dortmund, they have been unable to lure him.
That may underline the difficulty in recruiting squad players this summer, but if Liverpool are title winners by the time the summer rolls around, the landscape could have changed markedly…
