Liverpool Say Au Revoir to Rémy

Loic Rémy’s much anticipated transfer from QPR to Liverpool has apparently fallen through due to an issue that has arisen during the striker’s medical in Boston. The Frenchman had been flown over to the USA to be with his prospective team mates, allowing him to join training as soon as the formalities of a deal had been processed.

A fee in the region of £8.5 million had been widely reported and all facets of the deal seemed to be progressing smoothly. With personal terms in place, all that had remained was the usual technicality of the medical. There had been no indication emanating from within the Liverpool camp that anything out of the ordinary had been found by Liverpool’s doctors but in the last few minutes, news has been revealed that a possible long-standing injury concern has blown apart Rémy’s chances of a move to Merseyside.

While Rémy has not been afforded an injury-free career to date, you would not class him as injury-prone. He did pick up several muscular injuries to his legs in a relatively short period of time at QPR and Newcastle, but clearly these alone were not enough of a concern to ward off Liverpool as potential suitors. This may perhaps explain why Arsenal seemed to have a deal all but tied up for the Frenchman, only for nothing to come of it. More detailed information is likely to be released in the coming hours and days, but if this news does prove to be true, it is somewhat of a blow to Liverpool fans. Rémy would have been a strong addition to the Reds’ strike-force as they go about trying to replace the goals of Luis Suarez. Brendan Rodgers may well now turn to alternate options such as Wilfried Bony or Karim Benzema, both of whom would cost at least double the amount but may also have an even greater contribution to the first team’s success.
