Liverpool: Sakho set for move; full-back devastated; Clyne reveals fastest players
Mamdou Sakho could escape his Anfield hell by signing for West Brom on loan in January according to the . The Frenchman has been restricted to appearances for the under 23s side since he turned down the opportunity to move to Stoke on deadline day and a January exit is now inevitable.
Sakho became a cult hero since signing from Paris Saint-Germain but his attitude problems and disciplinary issues have tested Jurgen Klopp’s patience to the limit and there now appears to be no way back for him at the club.
West Ham left-back and rumoured transfer target Aaron Cresswell, who was released by the club having come through the youth system at the age of 15, has discussed his exit as he told :
“My dad told me in the car, I couldn’t get my head around it at first. They pull the parents to one side and tell them, ‘it’s not to be but it’s not the end’. I was devastated. As a kid, you are in a bubble of playing for Liverpool. It was all I had done for two years and I had enjoyed it so much. It wasn’t about a job, or thinking, ‘I won’t make it’. It was about playing for the club I supported. Everyone around me was a Liverpool fan. It was just purely for the love of football. My dad said, ‘it is not the end of the world. Go back with your mates. Just play with a smile on your face and enjoy it’. That’s what I did. I went back with the lads.”
Cresswell’s release seems to be a mistake by youth coaches at the club given his rise since departing for Tranmere Rovers, but the England international may be an option as Klopp looks to replace Alberto Moreno in the Reds’ backline.
On the other side of defence, Nathaniel Clyne has enjoyed a fine start to the season, partly owing to his quickly built relationship with Sadio Mane further down the winger, as he told :
“Me and [Sadio Mane] in a race? That would be tough and a close one. I have to say, he is faster, definitely when he is on the ball anyway. The top three are Sadio, then me and then Alberto [Moreno]. He has been great, he has provided assists and he has scored goals. He is on fire at the moment.”
Jurgen Klopp’s team are now one of the fastest teams in the Premier League with fast counter attacking football a key part of the German’s game plan.
