Liverpool round-up: Young Spaniard linked; Gabigol responds to rumours; Can struggles with criticism
Liverpool have been linked with a potential move for Espanyol’s 21-year-old right sided player Marc Navarro by Spanish newspaper . The Barcelona youth product made his first team debut for the club in January and scored on both of his first two appearances, also registering an assist.
Whilst it seems unlikely that the Reds are looking to replace Nathaniel Clyne at right back, where he usually figures, Navarro can also play on the right wing and could adapt to a more advanced role under the right tutelage of Klopp. With youth on his side, the club could look to bring him to Anfield in the summer.
However, a rumoured January target has stated that he is happy where he is as Gabigol spoke out to explain how happy he is at current club Inter Milan. The Brazilian forward told the Italian :
“I’m getting better and better. I feel stronger, faster and more Italian! The understanding between the coach, my teammates and myself is continuing to grow. I’m also building up the minutes and always try to train in the right fashion. Everyone is helping me, giving me advice and the fact I’m playing with superstars who previously I’d only see in video games is amazing. I’m ecstatic about wearing the Inter shirt.”
The right winger is still yet to make his first Serie A start for the San Siro outfit, but has come off the bench for them in two of their last three league games as he seeks to kick start his career in Italy.
Another player struggling to find form is one who is already in the Liverpool ranks, as Emre Can has revealed that he is finding it hard to ignore the critics as he continues to fail to produce the kind of performances that he has previously shown he is capable of. The German :
“It’s not easy to ignore what people are saying because you naturally tend to read the newspapers and speak to friends and a lot of people in the city. Of course they want to talk about football. It’s not easy to ignore, but we have to try and do that because it’s the best way to focus on the games ahead. The most important thing is we have to stick together. When we have good performances we stick together and we must do the same when we have bad performances.”
The midfielder was dropped for the visit of Tottenham to White Hart Lane, and although he came on as a substitute, the performances of Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Georgino Wijnaldum could make it very hard to re-establish himself back in the starting eleven.
