Liverpool round-up: Striker offer to Newcastle; friendly win in Sydney; rivals fight for Ante Coric

Daniel Sturridge may have worked his way back into the starting eleven for the final two fixtures of the Premier League season, but his future is still up in the air as  report that Newcastle could be offered the England international to bolster their forward line ahead of a Premier League return.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker found his opportunities limited for much of the campaign and could struggle even more next season if the club look to bring in an upgrade, which may lead to Sturridge being open to the idea of working under Anfield favourite Rafa Benitez.

Sturridge was on the scoresheet on Wednesday as the Reds play a post-season friendly in front of a crowd of 72,892 in Sydney as a host of club legends joined the first team to see off Sydney FC. The likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger and Steve McManaman all featured for the Reds.

Alberto Moreno and Roberto Firmino were also on the scoresheet, with a number of youngsters being given opportunities with Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson and Trent Alexander-Arnold all start in the 3-0 win.

The squad could be boosted by the presence of another youngster next season, as  claim that the club are monitoring Croatian 20-year-old Ante Coric. They could face competition from Tottenham and West Brom in the Premier League, with Italian sides AS Roma and Sampdoria and Jurgen Klopp’s former club Mainz 05 also tracking the midfielder.

The attacking midfielder has a contract until 2022 at Dinamo Zagreb and so would not come cheap for any of his potential suitors. The starlet has impressed this season, with eight goals and five assists in 38 games, and has also shown his ability in the Champions League for his side, who were knocked out in the group stage.
