Liverpool round-up: Stars ‘depressed’ by Klopp; midfielder targeted; Brandt discusses rumours
After results have turned disappointing in 2017, the claim that a number of the squad are growing unhappy with Jurgen Klopp’s training regime, due to the heavy training sessions taking place in the evenings, rather than mornings, depriving many of them of time with friends and family.
The set-up means that some players stay in bed until midday with no morning training sessions, but then do not return home until late, with some players growing frustrated at the unusual training system which is not common practice across the Premier League or Europe.
However, it seems unlikely that Klopp will be going anywhere soon and he is already planning for summer transfer activity, according to , as the club have been linked with Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita. The 22-year-old has impressed in his first season at the club since joining for £12.75 million from another Red Bull-owned team, Salzburg.
The Guinean central midfielder has recorded four goals and seven assists but has been praised for his energy and drive from the middle, which is something that has been missing at times as Liverpool’s shallow squad has made life difficult for the likes of Jordan Henderson, Georgino Wijnaldum, Emre Can and Adam Lallana.
Another reported summer target, Julian Brandt of Bayer Leverkusen, has spoken about his future as he told :
“You can take the step (abroad), but I don’t think you have to. Those that back themselves to do it have nothing in their way. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to try and find your feet abroad. Julian (Draxler) and Leroy (Sane) are the best examples of that right now. They are both young players and have huge futures ahead of them. It’s tough to say. I’m happy here and what happens next, we will see.”
The German could follow in the footsteps of Manchester City man Leroy Sane by moving to England if Liverpool do make a summer move for the winger.
