Liverpool round-up: Star set for bumper new contract; Klopp targeted by European giants; Henry spotted
The believe that Adam Lallana is set to put pen to paper on a bumper four and a half year contract this week which will see him be paid £150,000 per week. That will make him one of the club’s biggest earners and underlines his importance to the side given recent interest from Paris Saint-Germain after his superb form.
The England international has been sensational at times this season, with huge improvements since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp last season as he has stepped up his game to the next level.
On a less positive note, the claim that Jurgen Klopp has been considered as a surprise target for Barcelona as they look to replace manager Luis Enrique who looks set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The German joins the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman as being linked with the role.
Whilst the former Dortmund boss’ style of play and dynamism would undoubtedly attract attention from bosses in Spain, it seems unlikely that he would be keen to abandon his project at Liverpool just yet, having signed a six-year contract only last summer. With a number of names linked, it remains to be seen if Barcelona’s interest is real or serious.
Such speculation has not been helped by the presence of club owner John W. Henry at the Nou Camp last night as Barcelona beat Leganes. It is not yet clear why the American was at the game, with his presence sparking rumours and speculation amongst fans regarding the future of the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Philippe Coutinho.
The Fenway Sports Group owner was last present at a Liverpool game when they welcomed Sunderland in 2016 and could have been joining the Liverpool squad as they stay in La Manga in Spain for a training camp.
