Liverpool Round-Up: Klopp slammed team at half-time; Can’s poor form explained; Gerrard impact praised

The  believe that Jurgen Klopp furiously hit out at his team at half-time at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday afternoon with his side a goal behind at the break against struggling Hull City. The German was reportedly enraged by Simon Mignolet’s fumble leading to the opening goal and the players’ poor marking at set pieces.

They report that the manager lost his rag with his side, who have won just one game in 2017, against League 2 opposition, but it clearly did not have the desired effect as the second half only saw the side concede a second goal with no reply.

Jurgen Klopp has however made one thing very clear as he spoke out to defend midfielder Emre Can by rubbishing rumours that he is distracted by contract talks, and instead claiming that he is struggling to overcome a calf problem. Klopp :

“Emre has for the first time had no problems with his calves. We need him. In different parts of the game he is really consistent for us, and Chelsea was his best game for a few weeks, that is for sure. He has this calf issue which we are still looking into and trying to find out why. Is it his back? Is it his ankle? It lets him stay on the pitch but it makes him struggle a little bit. We could have said ‘stay off for two or three weeks’, but we don’t have a lot of options. We’ve tried to work on this while he is playing. It would be nice if we have now found the exact reason and the solution. Everyone could see the difference when he’s able to play without issues.”

The German has come in for criticism for his recent displays as the team’s form has dipped, with the central midfielder one of those whose performances have been most disappointed.

Steven Gerrard may only have started his role as a coach in the youth set-up at Liverpool this week, but the  claim that he is already earning praise for his impact with youngster Curtis Jones claiming that he is “learning from the best” when receiving advice from the former club captain.

With the team suffering on the pitch at first team level, such a feel good factor around the club is vital.
