Liverpool Round-Up: Klopp reacts to Hull defeat; new goalkeeper target; Matip international situation clarified
After a shocking 2-0 defeat to Hull City yesterday, Jurgen Klopp spoke out to criticise the ease with which his side conceded against the side fighting relegation as Klopp :
“We gave easy goals away and we didn’t play the first half as we should have played, especially when you saw the second half. You think then if we’d played from the beginning like this, with this direction, speed, kind of greed and all that stuff, then I think it would have been more difficult for Hull to cope with this.”
The Reds are still without a Premier League win in 2017, with their only victory of this calendar year, coming at League 2 side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.
One addition that could be made in the summer in an attempt to stem their leaky defence could be goalkeeper Samir Handanovic. Both and the quote Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport as claiming that the club are monitoring the 32-year-old Serbian as a cheap and experienced option between the sticks.

Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have both cost the side points with their errors this season, and it remains unclear if Jurgen Klopp will look to make another signing in goal to stop the flow of goals.
As Cameroon prepare for the final of the African Cup of Nations today, manager Hugo Broos has spoken to explain the situation of Joel Matip, as he told the press after their semi-final victory over Ghana, :
“They [Matip and West Brom’s Allan Nyom] still have a future, but the decision is now with them. I will not phone them and ask them if they will come. They have to phone me to say ‘I’m ready to play for Cameroon’. And not only for one game. Because when they come, they stay.”
Matip’s presence has been vital for the Reds, none more so than in their draw with Chelsea at Anfield, but he may well feel that with no January victory in the Premier League, he could have been better off competing for medals in Gabon.
