Liverpool round-up: Jurgen Klopp’s budget revealed; offer made for Atletico Madrid’s Theo Hernandez; Stoke comeback reaction
In exciting news for Liverpool fans, the claim that Jurgen Klopp will be handed a massive transfer budget worth nearly £200 million this summer in order to build the club to become title contenders next season. A top four finish could be key this summer to bringing in many of the targets they want.
That kind of financing would give the club the platform to add depth and quality to their squad which could make them real contenders both domestically and in Europe under Klopp’s management next season.
Part of that money could go towards Atlético Madrid left-back Theo Hernandez as Spanish outlet claim that Liverpool have made an offer for the young Frenchman. They claim that the Reds have offered to multiply his current wages by five should he complete a move to Anfield at the end of the season when he finishes a loan spell at Alaves where he has shot to fame with his strong displays.
Pacey and strong, with Filipe Luis firmly first choice under Diego Simeone, Hernandez could be forced to look elsewhere in the summer and Liverpool could represent one of the best places for him to get regular football if he is up to scratch.
Another defensive option would be welcome after a questionable first half display against Stoke at the weekend, but Jurgen Klopp praised his side for turning the game around as he told the :
“It was very, very important for us. For different reasons, it was really difficult. Stoke is a difficult place to play, to come here it’s really difficult to take the points. The first half was actually not as good as we thought it could be. They were two completely different halves, obviously.
“We had to change the system… We had to fight. And we needed Simon Mignolet with two outstanding saves – the second one was one of the best I’ve ever seen, Save of the Day, Month, Year…
“We scored two fantastic goals and played football in the second half… I thought it was deserved. It was lucky for us, of course, because of the first half but in the end it’s deserved and we are completely happy and fine with this game.”
Jonathan Walters found the net just before the break after finally finding a way past Simon Mignolet, but two goals in two minutes in the second half from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino were enough to earn the three points.
