Liverpool round-up: Douglas Costa linked; pole position for Burnley’s Michael Keane; Emre Can discusses Palace slip-up

, as reported by the  and , claim that Liverpool are leading the race for Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa as the Brazilian grows frustrated at the German club’s reluctance to negotiate a new contract for the 26-year-old who joined the Bundesliga outfit in 2015.

Since then, he has impressed with his pace and crossing ability, scoring seven and recording nine assist in 31 games this season, but with a £35 million price tag on his head, he is attracting interest from the Reds and Juventus over a potential summer move. Costa would fit in well with Liverpool’s set-up, but with such competition it may not be easy to win his signature.

Liverpool also face a challenge in the race for Burnley defender Michael Keane, but  claim that Liverpool have an advantage over Manchester United in their pursuit of the England international. The 24-year-old is reportedly still unhappy by how Louis Van Gaal handled his departure from Old Trafford in 2015.

Keane has been a revelation for Sean Dyche and has proven himself in the Premier League this season with his solid displays in defence, something that has been lacking for Liverpool and could cost them a place in the top four if they fail to earn enough points to see off challenges from Manchester City and Manchester United.

The club’s destiny is no longer in their own hands after defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, a result which Emre Can labelled as “stupid” as the midfielder told the :

“We are frustrated and disappointed. We controlled the game. I think we didn’t play too bad but then we conceded two goals from two chances. Everyone is very disappointed because we should have won this game. We had the chances. It was stupid from us. Again it was a set-piece.

“We had worked on them in training, we had trained very well… One of the top teams will drop points and that is a good thing. We have to be there and in the next game against Watford, we have to win. We have got to go again and it is still in our hands.

“If we win the last four games, we will reach the Champions League. Some of the other top teams will play against each other and we will give it our best. Winning our last four has to be the target.”

The German was criticised for seemingly allow Christian Benteke to escape his attention to open the scoring and also missed a great chance to draw the scores level before firing high and wide.
