Liverpool round-up: £8 million move for left-back; Newcastle bid rejected; wages could block move

Liverpool could finally be making progress in their pursuit of a left-back after top target Ryan Sessegnon put pen to paper on a new deal with Fulham. The  now say that the move will force the Reds to turn their attentions to Hull City left-back Andrew Robertson instead, with the Scottish international having an £8 million price tag.

It’s thought that whoever is signed will compete with James Milner for a regular starting spot in the team with rotation likely. Robertson was a regular for their Tigers as they were relegated in 2016/17 but the 23-year-old has just one year left on his contract and could be sold cheaply this summer.

One man seemingly going nowhere is young winger Sheyi Ojo. According to the , Newcastle have had a loan bid for the England under 20 rejected, with Jurgen Klopp keen to take a look at his abilities in pre-season and is considering a role in the first team squad next season.

It seems a wise move given the current circumstances with the distraction of the Champions League next season as well as a title challenge in the Premier League. After under 20 World Cup victory this summer though, Ojo may have a range of potential suitors and more bids may be considered.

Midfielder Lucas has taken steps towards an exit after it emerged that Trabzonspor could meet the club’s £5 million asking price but Turkish source  claim that Lucas could jeopardise the deal now that the two parties are discussing personal terms.

The Brazilian has demanded wages worth €67,000 per week (£59,000 per week), compared to the €48,000 per week (£42,000 per week) on offer from the Turkish club. It remains early in talks and negotiations but clearly progress will need to be made if an agreement is forthcoming.
