Liverpool round-up: £35million for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; Ben Woodburn up for award; Sadio Mane speaks about injury
Despite Jurgen Klopp previously having dismissed speculation linking Liverpool with a move for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the report that the club are still interested in the England international and could even be prepared to meet the £35 million valuation set for him by the Gunners if they are to part ways with the midfielder in the summer transfer window.
The former Southampton man has reportedly grown frustrated at Arsenal and is now considering his future with a summer exit possible, and he could fit in well at Anfield in either a midfield role or as part of the front three given his pace and strength when bursting forwards.
Another player who will be competing for a role in the front three next season is teenager Ben Woodburn, who was surprisingly nominated for ‘s European Golden Boy award for this season having made his breakthrough into the Red’s team under Klopp after superb form for the club’s youth teams.
Woodburn has attracted a number of plaudits despite his youth and was at the centre of a fight between England and Wales over which national side he would play for after his impressive debut saw him score the winner in front of the Kop against Leeds in the EFL Cup earlier this season.
However, neither are likely to displace star man Sadio Mane. The right winger is recovering after an operation on his knee and thanked fans for their support as he told the :
“It’s great that I have received so many encouraging messages from fans around the world, particularly on social media. It makes me proud and gives me so much power that so many supporters of Liverpool FC and Senegal give me such great support. I’d like to say thank you to everyone. I will give my very best after yesterday’s successful surgery to be back on the pitch as soon as possible and be even better than before.”
With an eight week recovery time, Mane has been ruled out for the rest of this season and will now begin work on recovering in time for a strong pre-season.
