Liverpool reportedly want £22m player that Solskjaer said he was following in 2020
Liverpool have reportedly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge this summer with the Baldes expected to suffer relegation – and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent verdict will intrigue supporters.
Berge, 23, remains sidelined with a long-term hamstring injury – having undergone surgery on the issue before the turn of the year, after picking up the problem in a match against Solskjaer’s side. He is yet to return to action, and faces a race against time.
Sheffield United are not yet down, but it looks ominous. Having parted company with Chris Wilder, they suffered a 5-0 loss to Leicester City on Sunday. Liverpool have joined Villa in the race to sign £22million ace Berge.
With his side likely to go down, Berge is probably the first player that will depart. Jeunes Footeux claim Tottenham and Arsenal are interested, and Solskjaer claimed in 2020, just before his injury – that he was tracking his fellow countryman.

“I know more or less everything about Sander from the time in Norway,” Solskjaer claimed, in December of last year. “I have talked a lot with Kjetil Rekdal about him.
“He needed some time to get used to the pace and intensity of the Premier League, but now Sheffield United see that they have signed a very good player. We know we have to follow him.”
TBR’s view – Liverpool need a Wijnaldum-like midfielder
Is Berge that? Wijnaldum is incredibly hard-working but also scores crucial goals from deep – take his brace in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona. His runs from deep have seen him become a favourite at Anfield.
But with the Dutchman looking more and more likely to leave this summer, Liverpool need a like-for-like replacement and while Berge has the engine and defensive qualities of Wijnaldum – he does not have the goals. He has scored just nine in 186 games.
A good signing, depending on the price but if Liverpool are to go after a midfielder – it needs to be a goalscoring one.
