Liverpool reportedly want £15m Premier League star that Peter Crouch called ‘fantastic’

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma this summer, and Peter Crouch gave his verdict on the African midfielder earlier this season – following a stunning performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

Bissouma, 24, already has 66 appearances for Brighton under his belt after joining the club from French side Lille. He has become a regular in Graham Potter’s side, but has gone somewhat understated with the Seagulls since joining.

Alex Crook has claimed that both Liverpool and Arsenal are looking at Mali international Bissouma – with Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards considering potential replacements for Gini Wijnaldum.

Liverpool fans will be excited to hear that ex-Reds striker Crouch was seriously impressed with the midfielder just this season following his performance during a 2-1 loss to Tottenham. Crouch labelled the midfielder as “fantastic”.

“There is so much to admire from Brighton today apart from the cutting edge,” Crouch told Match of the Day 2 – , following Brighton’s 2-1 defeat to Spurs in November.

“So often they had just one player in the box. Bissouma was fantastic throughout. Bissouma drove forward all afternoon but there were no runners, I don’t know where Neal Maupay was?”

TBR’s view – Would Bissouma be a good replacement for Wijnaldum?

The midfielders are different types of player. Wijnaldum can score and create, netting 19 and creating 16 more in 203 games, while Bissouma has only netted three goals in 66 outings for Brighton – laying on just one assist.

Bissouma is more of a holding midfielder. The kind of midfielder that would play in the role currently occupied by the likes of Thiago, Fabinho or even Jordan Henderson. Yes, a decent anchoring midfielder – but to replace Wijnaldum? Not the right man.
