Liverpool reportedly offered Juventus star that Mascherano labelled a ‘champion’
Liverpool are one of six clubs to have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Juventus playmaker Paulo Dybala next year as his agents look for a new club – and Javier Mascherano’s comments on Dybala will excite Reds fans.
Dybala, 27, is struggling for regular game time at the Old Lady, under Andrea Pirlo. He has started just six games this season – despite having a hand in 31 goals for Juventus last season under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri.
his agents are looking for a new side, who also state that six Premier League clubs have been offered the chance to sign Dybala. Liverpool have held talks, as have Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and both Manchester clubs.
Liverpool certainly have a strong chance of landing £23million () Juventus signing Dybala, and Liverpool fans will be even more excited upon hearing Javier Mascherano’s comments on his former international teammate.
Ahead of a Champions League quarter-final between Juventus and Barcelona in April 2017, Mascherano warned his Barcelona side to watch out for Dybala – and Gonzalo Higuain. Juve won 3-0 on aggregate, Dybala scoring twice.
“Gonzalo and Paulo are two great champions,” Mascherano said, . “I know their quality really well as I play with them for the national team. They can decide a game with a piece of individual brilliance.”
TBR’s view – Dybala would be a stunning Liverpool addition
Compared to Liverpool’s rivals in a potential pursuit of Dybala, they certainly lead the way. Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are certainly one of the most-attractive sides in European football at the moment.
However, do Liverpool have the spending power of either Manchester club or Chelsea? Probably not. Even if they did, where would Dybala fit in a Liverpool side that signed Diogo Jota from Wolves in the summer?
Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Jota are all excellent options – and probably stand more of a chance than Dybala when it comes to game time. A move to one of the other five sides may prove more tempting.
