Liverpool reportedly considering English striker that was compared to Fowler in March
Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Leeds striker Patrick Bamford ahead of the summer as he continues to enjoy a stellar first campaign in the Premier League – a player that was compared to Robbie Fowler in March.
Bamford, 27, poked home his 15th Premier League goal of the season on Saturday afternoon as Leeds produced another brilliant result in what has been an excellent first campaign back in the Premier League, beating Spurs 3-1.
The Englishman has ridiculed pre-conceptions that he would be unable to hack the Premier League in what was his first real crack at it, despite fringe spells at Palace and Burnley. 22 goal involvements in 35 games is spectacular.
His current deal expires in 2022, but he has penned an extension until 2023 – amid interest from Liverpool. Indeed, the Liverpool-linked striker was compared to Fowler by Don Hutchison, just in March.
TBR’s view – Is Bamford really good enough for Liverpool?
Ask Leeds fans, and you’ll probably get a mixed response. Some will remember the Bamford that was particularly wasteful in the Championship, managing only 16 when it should have been a lot more in the promotion season.
But others will point you in the direction of the form that sees him on the cusp of an England call-up. The form that has seen him create half as many as the impressive 15 he has netted. The variation of goals he has scored.
The work rate, the creativity and more. He is good enough, perhaps not to start, but to certainly offer Liverpool something in Europe, the cups and as a plan B in the league. Leeds, though, are unlikely to sell.
