Liverpool reportedly agree move, but does that spell the end for Keita? – TBR View

It has been a difficult time at Liverpool for midfielder Naby Keita. Since joining the club in the summer of 2018 for big money, the Guinea international has only ever shown in glimpses what he is capable of.

He joined having had a hand in 32 goals in 71 Leipzig games. Basically, Keita was involved in one goal every two games for the Bundesliga side – but at Liverpool, he has only had a hand in 11 during the amount of matches.

Liverpool may begin to lose patience. He played the entire 90 against Crystal Palace on Saturday, but that was only his second Premier League start since Liverpool were battered by Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Now, there are signs he could lose his place. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has returned from injury, while the breakthrough talent of Curtis Jones has seen the England Under-21 ace edge closer to being considered first choice.

Combine that with Liverpool have agreed an £18million move for Euro 2016 winner and Lille star Renato Sanches. Keita’s game time is irregular already, and it only looks as if it will get worse.

Gini Wijnaldum’s future remains a doubt and while Sanches is expected to be his replacement, Wijnaldum could easily remain. With Thiago returning, Xherdan Shaqiri still on the books, and Jones, Keita may need a move.

So, does he need to leave Anfield if he is to finally reach the hype that surrounded him when breaking through at Salzburg and the Leipzig? Yes – especially if Liverpool sign Sanches, who has reinvigorated his career at Lille.
