Liverpool recently agreed deal to sell player for £41.5m profit and even booked his medical
Liverpool almost sold a player who has been at Anfield since 2015 this summer – and his medical was even arranged.
Michael Edwards – 𒉰who is now back at Anfield in a CEO of Football role – excelled when it came to sales in his previous role as Director of Football, offloading Dominic Solanke for £19m after signing the striker for free, while also making £15m from the sale of Jordon Ibe, to give a couple of examples.
Now, it has emerged that Liverpool very nearly s♌old a player for a huge £41.5m profit this summer…
Liverpool almost sold Joe Gomez
A story from the now reveals that Liverpool agreed to sell Joe Gomez to Newcastle in a £45m deal this summer.
However, that iꦰs not 𓂃all – it sounds like the England international was genuinely one step away from leaving Anfield.
The Daily Mail add that Gomez was looking forward to the move as he prepared to return to his favoured position as a right-sided central defender, and a m𝄹edical was booked for the Liverpool No.2 in Leipzig, as 🌟he was already in Germany with England for UEFA Euro 2024.
Liverpool agreed to the sale as Newcastle of♚fered Arne Slot the chance to sign Anthony Gordon for £75m as part of the arrangement, as the Magpies desperately searched for a way out of their financial issues.

Ultimately, 🌳Newcastle found other ways to raise cash and satisfy the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35m and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton for £33m.
Had Liverpool act♎ually sold Gomez to Newcastle in a £45m deal, it would have secured the Reds a huge £41.5m profit, having initially signed the Londoner from Charlton for just back in June 2015.
The matter might not be over
We find it interesting that Gomez was actually happy to leave Liverpool for Newcast🅷le this summer.
Despite making 51 appearances last season, and appearances in total for Liverpool, the man from Catford sounds expendable for Slot, with the Daily Mail adding that the Re𝓡ds looked at Leny Yoro before the Frenchman’s move to Manchester United,ღ while Crystal Palace No.6 Marc Guehi is still being targeted.

That, coupled with Liverpool giving Gomez permission to join Newcastl🍃e, suggests to us that this matter is not resolved, especially as the report states that Sꦡaudi Arabian clubs are also plotting moves for the 27-year-old this summer.
Bayern Munic𒈔h are also believed to be inte🍒rested in signing Gomez this summer.
