Liverpool: Race for Inter winger; Klopp makes left-back decision; Markovic won’t return
Italian source claim that Liverpool have entered the race for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, with Chelsea and Manchester United also monitoring the Croatian’s situation amid a period of change at the San Siro. The 27-year-old could now head to the Premier League as a result.
Having scored seven goals and recorded seven assists in the first half of the season, it’s clear to see why the Reds may be interested in adding depth, with Perisic capable of playing on either flank of a front three as a winger, and even centrally if needed.
Jurgen Klopp has, though, confirmed that the club is not looking to add another left-back to the squad despite speculation to the contrary. The German insisted that he has full confidence in James Milner after his superb adaptation to the position and with Alberto Moreno improving of late, :
“What I can say is that I didn’t think for a second until now about another left-back. We are always looking for players but in this moment we have two left-backs – Milly is one and Alberto Moreno the other… Our situation is this position is really comfortable. Milly is still able to play other positions. He can play in the half space, can play offensive winger and No 8 – that’s good. Left full-back is a position where you can never have enough. If you’re looking for one, you won’t find one. If you’re not looking sometimes you get one or two opportunities to have one but it is about having the right one. It’s not at the top of our list of things.”
Milner was surprisingly put into the position despite having next to no experience in the role at the start of the season, but since then he has adapted to show his quality in any place on the field.
The claim that winger Lazar Markovic will be ending his loan at Sporting Lisbon early after playing just five minutes in the league since October, but will not be playing a role in the Liverpool first team this season. Instead, a move to Hull City on loan seems likely.
The Serbian failed to convince Jurgen Klopp that he had a role to play this season in the summer and the German has not changed his mind since, seemingly now being happy to allow him to gain Premier League experience elsewhere.
