Liverpool player who has ‘hugely impressed’ Arne Slot tipped to still be open to a move
Liverpool have a lot of work to do between now and the end of the summer transfer window as Arne Slot aims to fine-tune his squad ahead of his first season in charge of the club.
The Reds have been the most inactive Premier League club in the transfer window so far and are yet to sign a player, while sales have also been fairly slow as Slot continues to evaluate the squad at his disposal.
With a full team at his disposal and three pre-season games played, Slot has a more informed opinion of his players than what was the case when he first joined, so we could well see some movement on the transfer front in the coming weeks.
While Liverpool have kept their cards close to their chests in terms of incomings, a handful of players have been linked with potential transfers.
One such player is Fabio Carvalho, who has endeared himself to the new manager with a series of eye-catching displays in pre-season. A report from states that Slot has been ‘hugely impressed’ with Carvalho’s exploits so far, with the 21-year-old scoring in wins against Arsenal and Manchester United in the USA.
Fabio Carvalho would like to play under Southampton manager Russell Martin
The Portuguese youngster has been linked with a move to Southampton, but the Reds are under no pressure to sell if their asking price is not met. for Carvalho earlier this week and if reports are to be believed, .
Now, a report from claims Carvalho would like to play under Martin, with BBC journalist Adam Blackmore suggesting that Southampton will have to make a few sales to fund his signing.

He said: “There’s lots to be done [in the transfer window] and I don’t know if it will go down to the wire. But I do know they want to get a couple of things done in the next week and we’ll see what happens, but just moving a few on would help because it will give the Saints more strength and money. Simple as that.
“They’re not going to spend endlessly, they need a budget. If you can get Onuachu, Bella-Kotchap and Alcaraz out in the next week or two then great, you can attack the transfer window a bit better.
“Carvalho is an interesting one, I think he’d like to play for Russell Martin. One or the other is not bad, but both would be great.”
Liverpool will likely bide their time with Fabio Carvalho transfer decision
Liverpool have adopted a measured approach in the transfer market under their new manager and that is likely to continue with Carvalho. The 21-year-old endured a difficult time in the first half of last season on loan at RB Leipzig and featured just 15 times for the Bundesliga side before returning to Liverpool in January.
The Reds then sent him out on loan to Championship side Hull City, where he showed his class with a series of outstanding displays. Carvalho racked up nine goals and two assists in 20 games for the Tigers and spearheaded them to a seventh-place finish as they narrowly missed out on a playoff spot.
The former Fulham man looks to be in good form in pre-season and has predominantly featured on the left flank for Liverpool in the absence of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz, with the pair joining the squad belatedly after their involvements at Euro 2024 and the Copa America 2024, respectively.
Liverpool’s approach with Carvalho is very simple – they will be happy to sanction a sale if his asking price is met but won’t be forced into offloading him below his valuation.
