Liverpool player told he has already ‘let himself down’ this season
Liverpool’s season has got off to the best possible start with two wins from two games under Arne Slot.
The Reds have won both of their opening matches this season in comfortable fashion, and there’s a lot to be excited about at Anfield at the moment.
However, there are a few teething issues that have had to be addressed.
Indeed, 45 minutes into the season, Arne Slot made the cut-throat decision to substitute Jarell Quansah against Ipswich.
Slot’s decision to substitute Quansah made headlines at the time, but after an impressive performance from Ibrahima Konate against Brentford, that call looks justified.
Speaking on the , Gary Gillespie has been discussing Liverpool’s defence and the fact Quansah has been dropped.
The pundit says that Quansah let himself down at the beginning of the season, claiming that while he wasn’t the worst player on the pitch vs Ipswich, he did struggle with the physicality.

Jarell Quansah has let himself down
Gillespie shared his verdict on the defender.
“Konate is a top class player, but he can’t get in the France team on a regular basis. I thought he would’ve started the season, I think Quansah deserved to start, but he’s probably let himself down a little bit young Jarell against Ipswich, but he wasn’t the worst player against Ipswich, but he struggled with the physicality,” Gillespie said.
Jarell Quansah’s poor first impression
First impressions are very important in football, and sadly, Quansah has struggled to strike a chord with his new manager early on.
He was substituted early against Ipswich, and that may spell bad news for Quansah for the rest of the season.
If there’s one position on the pitch where there’s unlikely to be much rotation, it’s at centre-back, and, sadly, it looks like Konate and Virgil van Dijk are now Slot’s first-choice.
Quansah may have an uphill battle on his hands as he tries to get back into the Liverpool XI.
