Liverpool new-boy Sepp van den Berg expects to learn a lot from Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool didn’t do much in the way of senior transfer business this summer and it remains to be seen whether that pays off as the season wears on.

But they did invest in the future, bringing Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg to Anfield, and the latter is looking forward to learning from his esteemed colleagues.

As per : “They actually teach me everything. Virgil van Dijk, for example, who I can watch. They teach me how to win the Champions League final. That’s football.

“Everyone helps me. I can learn the most from Van Dijk. So if he gives me tips, I’ll save them. If I make a mistake like not stepping up, things like that. Everyone received me well. That made me feel good. In the end, I’m not here in vain. I want to show what I can do.”

TBR’s View – Van den Berg will be aiming to succeed van Dijk if he doesn’t develop quickly enough to partner him

Liverpool have found one elite central defender and while their defensive unit has been stabilised by Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, there is room for improvement there.

Van den Berg’s long-term aim is likely to be that man and the faith that Jurgen Klopp has shown in the young man indicates he’s got enough talent.

That means that the youngster will be looking to become van Dijk’s partner ultimately, but he may also be the man to take over from the former Southampton man if he is knocking on a bit by the time he finally matures into the player Liverpool need him to be.
