Liverpool must hone Alexander-Arnold set piece mastery to strengthen attacking diversity

With the trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane up front for Liverpool, there’s no doubt that the Reds are one of the most feared attacking forces in Europe.

Improvements in defence – lead by the frankly incredible Virgil Van Dijk – have made Liverpool genuine title contenders for the first time since Brendan Rodgers lead an unlikely charge back in the 2013-14 season.

Jurgen Klopp appears to have covered all his bases this season, adding strength in depth to his side, as well as making vital acquisitions that have walked straight into his starting lineup.

The German manager has even to his backroom staff, and though the appointment of Thomas Gronnemark was widely mocked by fans, both Liverpool and England have benefitted from the training Joe Gomez appears to have received.

As Klopp continues to strengthen his attacking options, it’s important that he takes advantage of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rare ability to hit a set piece with such precision.

The youngster took many fans by surprise when he hit a stunning dead ball into the back of Hoffenheim’s net in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League last season, and replicated that quality against Watford last weekend.

The Reds have looked somewhat lacklustre from direct free kicks since the departure of Philippe Coutinho, who was a known threat from any distance.

If Klopp wants to continue to develop his Liverpool side, he must ensure Alexander-Arnold hones his craft to add yet another threat to any opposition.
