Manchester United injury update could potentially hand Liverpool blow in title race

Liverpool are playing their part in one of the most closely run title races in recent memory, with the Reds chasing their first title.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently level on points with Manchester City and have a game in hand on their rivals.

With 12 games to go the race looks set to go down to the wire.

Klopp’s men go to Manchester United next Sunday in a game that could prove pivotal.

Some news from the United camp might make Liverpool’s task of claiming all three points at Old Trafford slightly more challenging.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been expected to be without Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial for several weeks.

however, the influential pair could feature against the Reds next weekend.

The duo were injured during United’s Champions League defeat to PSG but are now expected to be back sooner than expected.

Both Lingard and Martial have been in stunning form since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho.

United would relish the chance to derail Liverpool’s title ambitions and those chances are harnessed by the return of these attacking options.

Men for the occasion

Lingard netted an equalising goal in United’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield earlier in the campaign. The 26-year-old is typically a man for the big occasion and has been an important player for the Red Devils this season.

Martial is in good form and is enjoying his football again having fallen down the pecking order under Mourinho.

With City still needing to go to Old Trafford, Liverpool could really do with a win at the Theatre of Dreams.

If Klopp’s men can leave with three points, it would pile the pressure back on Pep Guardiola’s team.

Liverpool’s chances of victory would have been considerably higher had Lingard and Martial not recovered in time.

That doesn’t seem to be the case and it remains to be seen if one of the two will firmly stick the knife into Liverpool’s title bid.
