‘Outstanding talent’ Ben Woodburn has to make an impression next season at Liverpool
Liverpool have a number of fine young players in their ranks at the moment but Ben Woodburn faces being left behind if things don’t improve next season.
The 20-year-old is currently playing his football with Oxford United. However, just a solitary goal has come from that spell with the U’s.
It is, then, looking like another underwhelming loan spell after previously struggling to get going at Sheffield United. (Granted, Woodburn has had his injury problems with Oxford).
Manager Chris Wilder couldn’t find a space in the first XI for Woodburn and he ultimately returned to Anfield having failed to make any sort of impression at Bramall Lane.
So with the Liverpool juggernaut continuing to gather pace and players like Harvey Elliott ahead of Woodburn in the pecking order, 2020/21 could be a make or break year for the forward.

There’s no doubting Woodburn’s undoubted talent. He made an instant impression on his Liverpool debut, scoring a fine goal against Leeds United.
Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp has as an ‘outstanding talent’ and someone who he is ‘happy’ to have at the club.
But with opportunities limited in the Liverpool first XI and the club looking at bigger and better things, Woodburn needs to seriously impress next season.
The right move is critical
Getting the right move as a young player can be the difference between making it and not. Sometimes the pieces need to fall into place for things to click.
We’ve seen this with the likes of Dean Henderson at Sheffield United and Tammy Abraham with Bristol City.
It goes without saying, then, that Ben Woodburn needs to think carefully about his next move.
It will need to be one where he is given regular games, for one. Another thing to consider is joining a club on the up with a manager who can trust in young players.
Woodburn has the talent but if the goals don’t flow next term then Liverpool might well just choose to cash-in on the youngster before his Anfield career even gets going.
