Liverpool make move to sign ‘world class’ free agent but he wants to join Real Madrid
Liverpool have just made a move to bring one of the best free agents on the market to Anfield – but he prefers Real Madrid.
Arne Slot presumably has a substantial budget to spend on reinforcements, although that has not stopped Michael Edwards – CEO of Football at Anfield – also checking in on the free agent market, where there are some top players.
So, which free transfer are Liverpool now attempting to pull off? Let’s take a look…
Liverpool make Adrien Rabiot move
A story from states that Liverpool have now made a move to sign Adrien Rabiot.
The France international – who is currently playing at Euro 2024 – saw his contract with Juventus expire on July 1st while out in Germany on international duty, and has no plans to sign an extension.
Calciomercato claim that Rabiot’s camp were demanding €9m-a-year (£7.6m) to sign a renewal, which has led Thiago Motta’s side to pursue Khephren Thuram as a replacement.
The Italian news outlet believe Newcastle have also made a move for the “world class” Frenchman as well as Liverpool.

However, Rabiot has a strong desire to join Real Madrid, and dreams of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Calciomercato even say that the 29-year-old only wants to join Real Madrid, although that could leave the man from Saint-Maurice in a difficult position if Carlo Ancelotti decides against signing him.
Frenchman could still end up at Anfield
While the fact Rabiot wants to join Real Madrid is not what Liverpool would have wanted to hear after making an approach, we doubt this situation is over.
The Spanish giants are already blessed with a wealth of midfield options, such as Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric, Federico Valverde and Dani Ceballos.

Therefore, Ancelotti might not want Rabiot at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Liverpool are obviously a highly attractive club as well, so the France international could end up changing his stance.
